The UD Quon is the perfect truck for LogicHaul’s operations supplying masonry products in the metropolitan and rural areas of New South Wales and southern Queensland.

Brian “Spud” Murphy, National Fleet and Logistics Manager for LogicHaul, has been in the transport business for 35 years. He’s seen every kind of truck in every application from road trains to local urban deliveries, so when LogicHaul needed four more trucks he knew what he was looking for.

“The Quon combines all the best aspects of the Volvo Group’s advanced technology with Japanese meticulous assembly and precision engineering,” says Brian, “it’s a standout truck, a leader in its field. It’s top of its class and its met all of our expectations.”

Suitability to the task
While a lot of their deliveries are made in close urban environments, LogicHaul were looking for an adaptable truck that could function just as well on longer haul trips out in the countryside.

“Most of the Quons’ work is in the tight cul de sacs and streets of Brisbane,” says Brian, “but quite often they’ll venture out to the Toowoomba Range or down towards Dalby, so we needed a pretty versatile truck, and with the disc brakes and Volvo Group safety technology it meets all of our safety requirements.”

Durability and reliability
A truck off the road is a truck not earning, so keeping downtime to a minimum is one of Brian’s key objectives. UD’s history of durability was definitely a factor in his decision to go with the Quon.

“The enthusiasm of the UD team in Japan reflects on the product’s durability and reliability in the field. I can honestly say that we haven’t had a single day of downtime on any of the Quons since they entered service.”

Driver acceptance
Having to handle a wide range of different traffic environments requires a truck that drivers feel comfortable with, and the Quon more than met that requirement.

“Driver acceptance, even on those longer runs, has been pretty good,” says Brian, “the driver feedback has been that it’s just like driving their car. It’s easy to manoeuvre, it’s got good visual aspects from the cabin, generally the Quon has got good positive feedback from our drivers.”

Dealer support
As an industry veteran, Brian knows the importance of dealer support, and he’s been impressed with the VCV Gold Coast dealership.

“Dealing with VCV Gold Coast has always been a positive experience. They’re always helpful, they understand our business, they support what we’re trying to achieve, and they go to great lengths to try and cut the downtime of our truck. It’s great.”

Quality
For Brian, the Quon has demonstrated that UD have come a long way and have produced a quality product that’s a great package for operators of every kind.

“UD have really done their homework to build a truck that’s suitable for Australian conditions,” says Brian, “and it shows. I get blokes calling me all the time asking me about them, and I tell them they need to have close look at a UD, they’re a serious contender in the industry and they’re bang for buck in your company, for sure.”
